Rooted Mini Collection | Dunia Designs

Last week we went out and took family photos. The timing was perfect, because only a few days later we had our first snowfall warning of the season. Sadly, the forecast of 10-15 cm of the white stuff was accurate.

Week 31 of my project life album:

• The robins/crows and magpies were agitated all day long and it wasn't until supper we realized there was an owl in the tree.
• We saw [and heard] a murder of crows fly overhead.

• With the forest fire smoke in the air, we do get some spectacular sunsets.

We had some epic camping trips this summer. We were actually able to get into the campgrounds again! Such a bonus. On this particular weekend, we switched campgrounds last minute [for power and our patio lights of course] We totally lucked out with an awesome last minute campsite, and the weather was incredible. Lucky us.

• I joked that this was a rare glimpse of a teen in their natural habitat... But it's not really a joke. These kids and their phones... I sometimes wish they'd never been invented.

• All 4 of us went to Aladdin. It was incredible.

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. As kid, I used to wait until I heard my parents go to bed at night, then quietly [and sneakily] turn my reading lamp back on and read until the wee hours.

I can still read until the wee hours, but my roomate gets quite grumpy when I don't turn the light off...

One thing I'm happy to have passed along to my kids is a love of reading. For many years, they both had their noses in a book. Especially child number two... The teachers used to call me and complain that she was sneaking books to class, hiding them in her desk and reading while lessons were happening. 

Now they prefer to read their phones, if I'm being honest, but every once and awhile I catch them reading. I hope it's something they'll both be passionate about for their whole lives.

There's been a lot of buzz lately about December Daily. I start to get excited when this talk begins to happen. I'm trying to decide this year whether or not I'll do my book completely digitally... I've wanted to try it for a couple of years, but keep coming back to the physical album.

• We had back to back camping trips in this time period. We had planned an 'adult only' camping weekend, with another couple, but they had to back out at the last minute. Barry and I went any way, and we had a really good time. Our first camping trip without kids in over 20 years...
• Our boy turned 21.
• Another trip to the woods, this time the 3 of us went. We snagged a last minute spot at Bow Valley and it ended up being an epic site.

Happy September 1st!

It's hard to believe that for the first time in 16 years, I have no student heading back to school through the Calgary Board of Education...

I can finally unfollow a few websites. It seems really weird, and to be honest I don't think it's hit me or the student who just finished going to school for the past 13 years...  Eeks...

September means fall. It means cooler nights and shorter days. It means the changing of the leaves, and I think that we'll have an early changing of the leaves this year, as so many leaves all around the city are beginning to turn yellow.

I've been invited to be a guest on Dunia Designs for the next 3 months.

This layout has no photos, but is all about our disappointment in not getting THE email after registering for Taylor Swift tickets. 

Man oh-man... Such disappointment to be put on the waitlist. 

We've heard since, that over 33 million people registered. [Keeping in mind that the population of Canada is just over 38 million] Also, she's only coming to Toronto, which is the first hurdle, but we thought if we could get tickets, we'd cross that bridge when we got to it. 

We're not totally shut out yet. We still have a chance next week.  Crossing our fingers so hard. 

I was sure Mad had manifested this to come true... She's desperate to see this concert. Like so many others.

I can't remember an artist that has this kind of following. I'm so happy for her. I just wish we could see her in person too!

By week 20, there was finally signs of spring. 

It takes so excruciating long for the nice weather to get here, and then when it does, BAM, it's hot.

That seems to be the way the weather is happening here now. Our new normal. Though we did need to replace our furnace this winter [it stopped working during the coldest week in December] we weren't in the financial position to add A/C on at the same time. 

So once again, the house gets stifling... 

Without further adieu, week 20:

• Cherry tree blooms. So beautiful, I wish they lasted longer. 
• Our first patio beer during our tutor session date. 
• Finally, enjoyed a morning coffee on the deck. 
• Make up practice for Fairy Foxglove. She's so excited about her job at Calaway this summer. 
• Work photo that I've covered for privacy, though she'll be in 1000's of peoples photos this summer.

PL2023 - Weeks 15 & 16 | Sahlin Studio

I combined weeks 15 and 16 this week. 

We're at the time of year where everything is brown and dirty looking. The majority of the snow melted [only to fall once more] and nothing is coming up out of the ground yet. 

This is the time of year it's especially hard to see people post photos of blooming fruit trees, tulips, daffodils. Even the crocus. But as the days grow longer, we at least know it's coming. 

• Libby watching a jack rabbit in the next yard. 
• Mad finishing off her orientation shift.
• It's snowing again. 
• Trying to come up with a way to make our patio more private. 
• Still enjoying our  weekly 55 minute date night at the pub.

PL2023 - Week 14 | Sahlin Studio

I used fun pops of colour to document week 14. 

It was such a treat to see a bunch of blooms at Golden Acres. Feeling hopeful as spring approaches. 

• When it's still chilly outside but the snow is beginning to melt a trip to the garden centre does wonders for the soul. 
• We saw Pretty Woman. The first show of the new Broadway Across Canada season. The main characters had amazing voices. I was curious how this story would become a musical.  I forgot how sexual this story was, which is funny. After all, the premise of the story is, Edward picks up a hooker to be his fake girlfriend for the week he's in town...
• Making a mega stuff oreo cookie epic. 
• Date nights, just the 2 of us, are getting more common again.

Guest Pollywog Team - February - April 2023 | The-Lilypad

I'm finally sitting down to blog about my guest spot at the-lilypad. I was lucky enough to be asked to be a guest on the Pollywog Team, February through April. 

To say my first few weeks onboard were overwhelming, is an understatement. 

But once I got comfortable with the workload, I had an absolute blast with it.

There are things happening at the-lilypad every week. Every Wednesday is SOSN [something old, something new] A designer chooses one [or multiple] product/s from their collection that can be picked up for 50% off it's regular price!

Friday is new release day. Designers release new product which is typically discounted 20% off through the weekend. 

The first Friday of every month is BYOC [Bring your own computer] Mix and match products which  allow you to build your own kit.

In 3 months, I created 52 different layouts to showcase and highlight the work of different digital designers. All of my layouts can be found in the-lilypad gallery here. I didn't blog about them, because with multiple layouts a week, it would have been too labour intensive. 

But here's a super quick look at the layouts I created: 

I have nothing but accolades for all of the designers at the-lilypad. Such an amazing group of individuals that have tireless energy and creative ideas. It was such a super experience. 

I had so much fun going back over older photos [especially the ones where the kids were little] and scrapbooking them. My goals is to create a digital book with all the layouts I created.

It's never too late to do your memory keeping and story telling.

PL2023 - Week 13 | Sahlin Studio

The end of March and April ended up being quite busy months for me. I got a job!! After losing my mum in November of 2021, I spent a lot of time the year that followed, alone and in my head.  I don't think it was best for my mental state. So I found myself a part time job. I haven't worked for a long time, and I felt ready for something.  I already know I'm going to enjoy it, and the fact that I worked for 7 weeks and basically have the rest of the summer off is a bonus. 

Here's week 13 of my project life album.

• Good walking shoes for work are a must. I will likely get another pair too. 
• A quick shot of where I'm spending some time at work. 
• Nitty Gritty Dirt band with my brother. A great concert at the Jubilee.
• Yard work at Grandma & Grandpa's. Barry and the kids were outside working, I was inside visiting, while they watched the work taking place. Love it.

I'm delighted to say that winter finally seems to have left us. We turned a corner, and have enjoyed the most glorious sunny weekend.
