Throwback | Sahin Designs

Here's the layout I created for Sahin Designs Creative Gallery.

I used the Throwback collection.

I stopped short when I walked into the living room the other day, and saw these two sitting together on the couch like this.  It was deja vu to their younger years.

When hanging out with one another was what they did. Daily.

They were so close when they were little. Then suddenly, one day, didn't seem to have an ounce of patience for one another.

If there's been a good thing that's come from all this time home this year, it's these two have been forced to spend more time together than they have in many years. They've played video games together. They've put puzzles together, together. They've played board games together.

I hope their relationship gets back to the special friendship they shared when they were little.

Lemonade | Sahin Designs

For Sahin Designs November creative gallery, I went back to sunny summertime.

Madelyn has wanted to catch snakes, for as long as I can remember.

This girl is absolutely fearless, when it comes to most things.

The first snake we ever saw, was quite a few years ago, at Head Smashed-in Buffalo Jump in southern Alberta. The four of us were walking along some of the outside pathways and saw a large black snake ahead of us. Madelyn took off like a shot, headed directly for the snake. We all yelled stop! Thankfully she did, and the snake quickly slithered away. We think it might have been a bull snake. But didn't get a good enough look to know for sure. All I know is 3 of us stopped, and one wanted to investigate up close...

What I do know, it was a big snake. Also, I don't care much for snakes.

She found a little snake in May, at her Grandma & Grandpa's house. Grandma was yelling "don't touch" but it was too late, she'd already scooped it up, fascinated by it. On our way home, all she could say was, this has been the 'best day ever'.

On our camping trip near Pincher Creek, we saw 4 snakes. Madelyn caught 3 of them.

I assume these were harmless little garter snakes, but I really have no idea. One thing I do know, she's not scared to catch things, that could potentially bite.

I am.

So she doesn't get her bravery from me. I don't like to pet strange dogs for heavens sake...

Naturally, I had to do a layout of her summer snakes.

Fall is For Collection | Sahin Designs

For Sahin Designs October Creative Gallery, I chose to use the Fall is For Collection.

I have mixed emotions when it comes to fall.

On one hand, fall can be so lovely. Sometimes, on a good year, we get our 'second wind' when it comes to the weather. The days begin to grow noticeably shorter, leaves begin to change colour. Our landscape becomes stunning. On these good years, the days are remain warm, evenings enjoyable. [Lots of years however, we get an early snow and a killing frost, we end up missing all the beauty as leaves freeze to the trees, then just fall off. Those years in particular, are hard to take.]

On the other hand, we all know what comes after fall... Winter... Dreaded winter. Blowing snow and frigid temperatures. For that reason alone, fall seems a little bit like a state of mourning. Once the leaves are all gone, winter could happen at anytime. We always hope for no snow come Halloween, but lots of years the kids have gone out in snowsuits as Mother Nature refuses to cooperate.

This year, after a spectacular July, August and September we have been enjoying the nicest fall in a long time.

On lucky years like this, I actually look forward to the cooler temperatures.

Here is a quick layout I created. For the first time in quite a few years, I'm actually looking forward to it getting cooler. Not the snow, mind you, but not much we can do about that.

Boo & Stuff | Sahin Designs

You guys.

It's October.

And you know what that means, all things pumpkin and Halloween-y.

Still getting so much enjoyment out of our fall colours. The temperatures have been amazing, though now when you're standing in the shade, you do notice the chill that's there. The last time I remember our autumn being this nice, at this time of year, was 2008.  Barry and I came back from celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in Greece. I remember being so thrilled when we returned, that we still got to experience fall.

Wow, that was a while ago...

Speaking of fall, Sahin Designs has just released her newest collection, Boo & Stuff. I love it. Halloween is one of my favourites.

Boo & Stuff Digital Scrapbook Collection - Sahin Designs

If you didn't already know, this weekend is NSD [National Scrapbook Day] because of that, this collection [and many others on her website] are 40% off! So get there before midnight Sunday, October 5th for the chance to download some great products at great savings!

Don't forget that newsletter subscribers will receive an email with a link for 50% off this collection!

This collection is awesome, and I'm in love with the little vellum ghosts. Like seriously, how cute are they?

I created this 8x10 sized layout, to document some of the couple costumes we came up with for our Halloween parties.

Some of our Costumes were:
  • Beth and Dog - Bounty Hunters
  • John and John's wife - Hutterites
  • Cleopatra and Caesar
  • Angel and Devil
We thought our parties were fun. Everyone came dressed up.  Lots of great food, lots of our guests contributed an appy. We had prizes for best costume, best couple. The kids were little, so we sent them for a sleep over and Ama & Baba's. Fun times indeed. Maybe one day we'll get back to adult Halloween parties again. I'm always on the look out for the perfect couple costume ideas.

The newest release from Sahin Design is called Untold Stories.

It's available through Sunday September 20th for 20% off. Newsletter subscribers, watch your inbox for the chance to pick this collection up for 50% off.

When purchasing the collection bundle through September 20th, you'll get the Untold Stories Word Art collection included, it's a free gift with purchase!

I had a really hard time choosing what story to tell with this collection. We all have hard stories to tell. And they're not all good ones. There are stories of heartbreak, grief, loss.  Sometimes it's hart to put those stories into words.

Everyone handles hard times differently, but it doesn't mean those stories shouldn't be told.

Here's what I created using this collection.

I miss this lady every day.

I'm so glad that she has a special place to be celebrated, documents and remembered in my stories.

Notes from the Road Collection | Sahin Designs

Notes from the Road is the latest collection from Sahin Designs.

You guys, this is a swoon-worthy collection. The moment I saw it, I loved it.

Notes from the Road Digital Scrapbook Collection - Sahin Designs

It's on sale now through Sunday [September 6th]  for 20% off. If you're a newsletter subscriber, watch your inbox for a 50% off coupon.

We had our last camping trip of the season a week ago.

We have tried several new campgrounds this season, due to the fact, that vacancies were not easy to come by. We looked at a map and decided we'd be willing to travel for up to 2 1/2 hours. It turned out, this was more of a 3 hour drive, but we got to experience some highways we've never seen, country we've never driven across, and even a few towns and hamlets.

Here's the layout I created using the Notes from the Road Collection:

This collection seems very versatile, and I can see using it a ton. In fact, I am almost excited to see some leaves falling from the trees, so I can create something fall related.

I created this layout as an 8x10 size, and love how I have elements and photos coming right to the edge of the page.

Very pleased with this layout. I already know it's going to be one of my favourites.

Layouts Old and New | CZ Design

I have followed Cathy Zielske for as long as I've been scrapbooking. Through her work, I've watched her kids grow up. I feel like we're old friends that go way back. I'm pretty sure we could be besties.

I've also taken several of her on-line classes through the years. The pages I created from those classes, continue to be some of my most cherished layouts.

I have loved her elegant simple style from day one.

Here are a few of the layouts I created from the class, Design Your Life, circa 2008. Back when I actually used physical paper and pictures.

Oh. My Heart... Those sweet little faces, that have grown and changed so much. I'm so, SO grateful to have all these stories captured through the years.  Scrapbooking is something I've never regretted in the 20+ years that I've been doing it.

In 2017, Cathy offered Design Your Life again, only this time it was in a digital format. I took it again. And if it's possible,  I loved my layouts even more.

These days, all of my layouts are done digitally. I was super excited to find out that that Cathy has just launched her very own digital download shop. Check it out here:

I'm no stranger to the 'scraplift' if I see something that resonates, I will definitely try to recreate it. Now I don't have to re-create! I can simply download the template design and get to work. How awesome is that? And heaven knows, there are a ton of Cathy templates that resonate with me.

Everything in Cathy's shop is on sale, 40% off, through July 19th at 11:59 PM EDT. Discount code can be found below.

Here are a few of the layouts I've recently created, using her templates:

Layered Template 047  | Paper - Jessica Sprague Just Beachy

Layered Template 151  |  Splendid Fiins Mixed Bag Kit

Layered Template 002 | 2014 Studio Calico Digital Basics [In a Creative Bubble]

This is just so exciting! I can't wait to continue on with my simple story telling.

Family Day Collection | Sahin Designs

For Sahin Designs June Creative Gallery I chose the Family Day collection, to capture another story that I want to remember, during this crazy time.

Things are cautiously, opening up here in southern Alberta. We are slowly and carefully venturing back into the world again. Our Coronavirus numbers are pretty low. It looks like things are heading in the right direction. [Fingers crossed]

This comes on the heels of being home for the past three months.

Twelve weeks.

Eighty-six days.

After the initial fear of Covid-19, and all that it encompassed finally subsided. I have leaned heavily  into our time spent at home.  Just a few days ago, I came across the following quote on Instagram,

Is that not the truth?

This didn't just speak to me, it yelled at me.

If there's one thing that 12 weeks at home has taught me, it's what is and what isn't important.

The most important. The people you live with.

Then food. Then toilet paper, yeast, flour...  I joke of course. Those things are now all readily available. We can finally laugh at the hoarding and nonsense that kicked this whole thing off.[However, now you can't find plants or lattice anywhere, in case you're wondering] A whole lot of back yards are on their way to being beautified.

Once again, I'm grateful that I genuinely like the people I was stuck at home with.

One day, when things finally gather speed, and we're rushing head-first back to normal, I know I'll look back at this time of slow and intentional, with a smile on my face.

During the pandemic we made the decision to 'take our evening meal' in our dining room. A space that for some reason, we only ever used for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

My vote is to keep on eating dinner in there. Enjoying our time spent together at every meal. While we can, because I know these kids won't be living with us forever.

Homebody Collection | Sahin Designs

This global pandemic still seems like a dream. Like it can't actually be happening. If you would have told me, 6 weeks ago, that the world was going to come to a near stop, I would have laughed at you. And yet, that is exactly what we're dealing with.

This brand new collection, Homebody, is available now from Sahin Designs. It has come at a time, we need it most.
Homebody Digital Scrapbook Collection - Sahin Designs

Also, if you purchase the entire collection through April 8th, you will get this Covid-19 Stamp Pack for free.

Covid-19 Digital Scrapbook Stamps - Sahin Designs

I have a feeling this will get a lot of use in layouts created, during this troubling, stressful time.

Here are couple of layouts I created using this new collection. Trying really, to come to terms with our new normal.

I have always been a homebody. I love my home. Turns out, I love it even more, when I'm the only one in it. Well, with the exception of Libby of course.

This is really h a r d...

And I suspect it will continue to be so, as time goes on.

I'm thankful for technology. That we're able to text and FaceTime and joke and laugh together. This past week I had wine date with my girls, and a morning coffee with my other girls. We all got some laughs out of these conversations.

The weather has been a downer too. The groundhog is a big fat liar. It's snowing here. Still. Today. April 3rd. Cold grey days, make this seem even harder.

When spring comes, eventually, we'll get a whole other element of being outside in the yard, to add to our isolation routine.

Here is our reality right now, this is what getting together with friends looks like:

This next layout was before the kids had any direction as far as school went. They had 2 weeks off before hearing about any type of school work and/or assignments. That has thankfully changed, and both are working away at different assignments, etc. A very different type of learning, that both of them are not super happy with.

I'm relieved that both kids are excited to get to school work. Both miss it. Looking froward to summer vacation is one thing. Looking at 4-5 months off school is another...

The problem with two kids wanting to learn and connect is,  two computers, both of which are being used by a child. I take the back seat...

Eeks... Looks like I might have to make late evenings my scrap time once again, like when the kids were little...

As for our little foursome, we've been having game nights, movie nights, tv watching nights, hot tub nights, and name that tune nights. We're making the most of out it, but still...

It's a lot. Of. Time. Together...

My kids are missing their friends.

I'm missing my people too. All of them.

And I'm very much missing my quiet house. So is Libby.

We're all in this together, doing the best we can.

Be safe, stay healthy. Stay inside.

I shrunk my template down, to fit 8x10 size.

Here it is:

Team Armada had such and exciting season.

Ironically, the girls won gold for the first tournament of the season, the NW Ringette Rumble the first weekend in November. Then their last game of the regular season. Not too shabby.

It really was a pleasure watching you girls play.

I'm thankful that they won this game before the season was cancelled. [Which it was, 6 days after this epic win]

The girls had made it to provincials, in Leduc, AB, March 13-15th. The remainder of the season was abruptly cancelled, after they played [and won] their first game against the Leduc Jaguars.

A huge let down, to say the least. They were playing so well together, it's quite possible they might have won the whole thing!

Grad Collection | Sahin Designs

I've known for quite a while, that I wanted to showcase Elif's Grad Collection, in the creative gallery.

Mason had grad photos done in November.

I have waited patiently for grad pictures to arrive and when they did, I got to work.

3 weeks ago, although I was aware of the Corona virus, I felt relatively untouched by it.

Man, a lot has changed in just one week.

A week ago today, school was cancelled, indefinitely for my kids. We have been encouraged to stay home and self isolate.

Which is what we've done, except for the occasional trip to the grocery store and walk around the block.

On the bright side, my scrapbooking is caught up...

Here's the layout I created.

The idea a week ago, that grad would be cancelled, was not even on my radar... Alas, it looks like that is exactly what's in the cards. My heart truly breaks for the class of 2020, who have worked so hard to get here, and now, we're all facing a fair amount of uncertainty.

Hopefully, down the road we'll look back at this time and be reminded about how it made us grow. In ways we never thought we needed to grow.

But for now, please be safe and take care. Do your part to help, by staying home.

I really like the colour combinations.

It especially brightens up dreary winter days.  About this time of year, winter is getting a little bit long in the tooth. On the bright side, the days are getting noticeably brighter day by day. If only the snow would stop...

This is the layout I created using this product.

A quick layout capturing a selfie we took the night of our anniversary.  September is such a busy month for us with hockey and ringette evaluations. On the evening of our anniversary, we dropped Madelyn off at the rink, raced out for dinner, picked Madelyn up on our way back home, then Barry took Mason to the rink for his ice time. It was nuts.

Even though it's hectic, I'm sure glad we made time to celebrate.

21 years. In a row. I'm still exactly where I want to be.

Lucky me.

This monumental birthday slipped by rather quietly.

You weren't interested in a party. You weren't interested in a trip. Well, perhaps if I'd used the word GOLF in a sentence, there would have been interest... Not much chance for that I'm afraid, September is one of our busiest months.

We met friends at a Pub on wing night Wednesday, you both wore birthday girl/boy badges. We ate wings, had a few drinks, and called it a celebration.

On your actually birthday, we had to be at a rink [like we have been every year since the kids have been involved in hockey/ringette] But I did decorate the kitchen, and make you a cake.

It was a low key birthday, but we did celebrate you.

This collection is super versatile, I love all the colour combinations. Also, can't wait to use the balloons sometime soon.

One thing we know for sure, everyone has a birthday once a year!

Midnight | Sahin Designs

Happy 2020!

It seems crazy to say that date out loud. It will likely take me months to get it right.

I created a layout as part of the creative gallery for Sahin Designs, using her Midnight Collection.

Here is my first layout of the new year, documenting, New Year's Eve.

Like I say in my journaling, I was preparing for this. Knowing sooner or later, our kids will want to be elsewhere as the 'ball drops'.

Mason went to his girlfriends house, so it was just the 3 of us.

Madelyn has been itching to go to Zoo Lights this year.

When the kids were little, we went every year. It was part of our December tradition, but as they got older, schedules got busier, this wasn't very high on the priority list.

We figured New Year's Eve was a good time to go. And it was. Not too cold, and it wasn't as busy as it's been in past years. We spent about an hour there, maybe slightly more. We checked out all the light displays, sat by a fire or two, then checked out the gift shop. Done and done. I think Madelyn enjoyed having us all to herself.

Later on, we went and watched the fire works they were setting off the Calgary Tower. It wasn't spectacular, perhaps we were simply too far away. We had a great view.

After that we picked Mason up.

Before we know it, there'll just be two of us again, at the stroke of midnight.

Digital Day | Sahin Designs

I've had the idea for this layout for a while now.

In fact, I've been anticipating it since November 1st, when Mason passed his driving test and got his drivers license! [On his first try, so proud of you buddy!]

Then, it snowed. And really, it seems to have snowed more than it hasn't since then. He's had very little experience driving on snowy roads, and that does take some practice.

We have still been having him drive to all the places, with us, to get some practice in.

And yesterday, I sent him on his first solo drive, he went and picked his sister up a the bus stop.

It's going to be so awesome to have another driver in the house.

Not to mention how convenient it will be. Yes Mason, we might send you on the occasional errand, that's just  a fact. Congratulations on becoming another member of the driving population!

C'est Noel Collection | Sahin Designs

This latest release from Sahin Designs, C'est Noel,  has my heart swooning.

I'm a fan of pink in general, so all these variations of my favourite colour, makes it a little bit sweeter.
C'est Noël Digital Scrapbook Collection - Sahin Designs
I'm also have a serious love affair with all things hexagon right now. They're everywhere!

There was no way I could only choose one or two papers from this fabulous collection, so I found a way to include ALL the papers! This is the layout I created:

Have you noticed the hexagon movement?

They're every where. And I'm loving them all.

I love how this page turned out, and I can not wait to use this for more layouts to come!

Daybook | Sahin Designs

A few months back, Mason went out with some friends. They decided to go rock climbing.

One thing about being a parent that no one prepares you for, is the letting go. The first time he got picked up, in a vehicle, driven by a friend, my heart quickened. That is now a fairly regular occurence.

This letting go process stings a bit. Even though it's the natural evolution of growing up.

There comes a time, when hanging out with Mum and Dad, is a bore. They'd rather hang out with friends. I feel pretty fortunate, because I think for the most part, our kids genuinely like us. [Though they are certain that we've never experienced a moment of 'fun' in our lives]

I was thrilled when Mace texted me these photos of his outing with friends. I'm so appreciative that he was willing to do it. This was something he experienced with his friends, but included me in his circle a little bit.

I'm thankful he chose to include me.

I used Sahin Designs - Daybook to put this 8x10 sized layout together.

All the digital products are so versatile, and can be used with so many 'every day' moments.

Life, Love, Soul | Sahin Designs

This collection is a brand new release from Sahin Designs. It's called, Life Love, Soul.

I love this collection. I love the colours, I love the elements, I love the papers. It is so versatile and I can see it being used on many future layouts.

My goal was to create 2 pages, that I can add to a photo book of our trip. Of course, I want to print them out as well, to add to my scrapbook album. I will print them out as 8x10 size.

Here is how I used the product:

I love this selfie of us, and the fact that it has our kids in the background. It was absolutely pouring rain when we arrived

Naturally, we had the beach all to ourselves.

And then the sun came out... So relieved to wake up the next morning to clear blue skies. It was extremely windy, but at least it wasn't raining. We got to spend some time on the beach.

I'm so thankful for the time we spent together on this trip.

Like I mentioned, I've been working on a photo book of this trip. My plan is to have them printed and give one to each kid for Christmas. So they'll be able to reminisce and look back at pictures of this trip any time. And of course, I hope they'll love looking at it, as much as I loved putting it together.

Day of Thanks Collection | Sahin Designs

I try to be mindful of capturing the moments, without being annoying about it. Sometimes in fact, I'm so laid back about it, that I forget to take any photos at all. This has happened more times than I'd like to admit.

I'm working on it.

This past weekend was the Canadian Thanksgiving. The timing couldn't be more perfect, because the Day of Thanks collection was just released by Sahin Designs.

We celebrated Thanksgiving with both sides of the family. I tried my best to remember to take pictures. I did okay, but not great. I had to rely on photos that were sent my way by my sister-in-law. That being said, I'm not a stickler about where the photos come from, I'm just glad to have them.

Here is my two page spread:
