February Feature Product: Word Art | Sahlin Studio

February's featured product from Sahlin Studio is Word Art.

For the entire month of February Sahlin Studio is offering 35% off her entire category of Word Art. This is an extensive category with all types of  different word packs. Click here to scroll through the impressive list.

Trust me when I say, you'll have a hard time choosing which Word Art to pick, there are almost too many to choose from.

I used All About This digital Stamps.

All About This (Digital Stamps)

I wanted a final page to close off 2019's Project Life album.

This is a bit of a compilation of things that happened throughout the year, though very vague. It's touching only on a few moments.

The last few years I've kept track of the books I've read, and I knew I wanted to include that. I wanted to highlight a few things that have happened over the year. I loved the idea of a collage of all the places we visited on our road trip last summer. So this page was born.

I think it's the perfect last page of my album.

PL2019 - December | Sahlin Studio

This is it! The last few pages of my Project Life album for 2019.

There's a few more things I want to add, so I might one more page. For example, the last few years I've kept track of the books I've read. I'd like to add this years books. Not sure how I'll approach it yet, but I will approach it.

For now, take a look at these pages.

In my journaling I talk about condensing the month, as I also follow along with a December Daily album through this month. I don't want too much redundancy.

Side A:

  • But seriously, how can it be that I have a kid leaving high school and one going into high school?
  • Grad proof photos arrived.... What a tough decision.
  • Love Barry as an elf...
  • 4th tourney of the season so far, Medicine Hat with team Armada.
  • Miss Libby, before and after she went 3 months this time between cuts.

Side B:
  • Our crazy Christmas Party Crew. This story is told again in my DD album, but I love the photos too much not to include here.
  • Mason finally started driving on his own. Oh. My. Heart.  I can't even. Waiting painstakingly for this to become the new normal, so I don't feel sick each time he drives away...
  • Gingerbread house with Ama, your special time together.
  • 2009 vs 2019 with the cousin crew. Definitely some changes.
  • 2019 Xmas Eve Skate.
  • Xmas Eve Family Movie, we saw Star Wars.

PL2019 - Week 48 | Sahlin Studio

I can't believe another New Year's Eve is upon us.

I just finished reading the book, I miss you when I blink. It's a book of essays by author Mary Laura Philpott.

Much of it resinated with me. She talks about having kids, watching them grow up so quickly.  How things seemed to move so slowly when they were babies, a day seemed like a year when they were fussy. Now the years seem to be gaining speed, at an alarming rate.

Sometimes I feel like my project life albums are another vessel that shows how quickly life goes by. But I can't stop doing them, I still love it too much.

Here is week 48 of my project life album.

  • Miss Libby, loves the snow, and wants out all the time. The latest development so far this winter, she REFUSES to come back up the stairs on her own. Which leads to countless rescues a day.
  • Photo to prove to the kids I couldn't find the pop they wanted.
  • Me and the girl at the movie Last Christmas.
  • There's always a fun mum on the team, that either brings or sends shooters for the adults.
  • The boys at a concert, a band playing the music of Pink Floyd's - The Wall.
  • Mad's first winter camping adventure, where they did indeed sleep out in a tent.

PL2019 - Week 47 |Sahlin Studio

Here is week 47 of my Project Life album.

I used several Christmas themed kits from Sahlin Studio, that don't necessarily have to be about Christmas. One of my favourite things about using all the different products, is to show how versatile things can be. Just because it's Christmas themed, doesn't mean you can't use it for something other than Christmas.

Having said that, delighted with the Starbuck app on my phone. I took a screenshot of it, and included it in my album. These colours definitely scream Christmas, and it just makes me happy.

  • Miss Libby watching the boys every move as they put up Christmas lights.
  • The delight of driving the deerfoot in a snowfall.
  • Celebrating the Starbucks flavours of the season.
  • Fun photos to find on my camera roll.
  • Mustangs waiting to get on the ice.
  • Celebrating Chris' birthday with brunch.

PL2019 - Weeks 45 & 46 | Sahlin Studio

I combined these two weeks together, even though I forgot to add week 46 on my journal card. It's a bit inaccurate, but I'm okay with it. The week number is wrong, the dates are right.

I already know I'll look for weeks 46, assuming I'd forgotten it, but I'm not reprinting the title. Maybe I'll add the 46 with a sharpie...

  • A family trip to the Hitmen game, we got to watch the Hitmen play against Prince Albert Raiders, Spencer was playing and he scored the first goal. It was so cool. We all cheered when he scored, because, he's ours after all. But quickly remembered, we're in 'Hitmen' territory. [We only cheer for another team if it happens to be my nephews]
  • A lovely mild day to walk downtown. We've had all the weather this fall.
  • Madelyn was absolutely delighted to spend the day at a veterinarian clinic on 'take your kid to work day'
  • Putting together foundation pages for my December Daily album.
  • We had 3 ringette tourneys, 3 weekends in a row.
  • The boys won a game! Maybe they're finally gelling together a bit as a team [fingers crossed].

PL2019 - Week 44 | Sahlin Studio

This page was to document the whole week, but I kind of focused on Halloween.

Madelyn had been looking forward to going out Trick or Treating with her friends, since last year. [Last year she was on a school trip and missed going out] She also knew she wanted to go as Alexander Hamilton sometime during the summer.

She wanted to invite friends over to go around the neighbourhood with her. Which she did do. Halloween was on a Thursday this year, and they actually had Friday off. All the stars aligned for her last year going out.

She invited her friends over for pizza. They were all able to come. Her close girlfriend came home on the school bus with her. The rest of the crew arrived around 4:30. This group of kids are awesome. It was a chilly night, but no rain or snow. They bundled up and headed out. Apparently they sang as they went from house to house. So fun.

  • Halloween treats and dinners leading up to the big night. Kids still let me indulge in themed treats.
  • Group of Grade 9's, celebrating their last year trick or treating.
  • Our pumpkin creations.
  • All 6 of those crazy kids were piled in the bathroom helping one get ready.
  • Mason proudly showing off his drivers license!
  • Team Armada starting out the season with a pretty convincing gold medal win!

PL2019 - Week 43 | Sahlin Studio

Calgary was once again under a snowfall warning on November 18th and 19th.

And again, the prediction was accurate.

I'm not exactly sure how much snow we received, the forecast was for 15 cm of snow. But it snowed for 24 hours, and it looks like a winter wonderland.

Which was too bad, because a few days before that, we had double digit temperatures in the teens, all the snow from our last few snowfalls had melted...

Now we start over again, in hopes that yet another chinook will melt all the snow.

The Calgary Herald has this to say about our winter:

According to the network’s seasonal forecast released Monday, it’ll be chillier than normal throughout southern Alberta over the coming months, but with periods of reprieve mixed in.

Fingers crossed the reprieve they're talking about are the snow melting chinooks.

I spent Tuesday baking cookies and setting up one of my Chrismas trees. If it's going to look like Christmas outside, I figured might as well get some of those twinkling lights up and feel good about the season.

There's absolutely something to be said for Hygge. I'm all over it, with white lights, scented candles, blankets at the ready and the piling of fire wood. I love to be cozy. I guess I'm settling in for the season.

Here is Week 43 of my project life album:

  • Election results were very disappointing.
  • Waiting for the school bus, noticing the change in the light.
  • Alexander Hamilton costume is complete.
  • Miss Libby, looking homeless.
  • Reading under a blanket, drinking tea, waiting for the furnace repair guy to arrive.
  • Decorating halloween cookies.

PL2019 - Week 40 | Sahlin Studio

I can hardly believe that I only have 12 weeks of project life  pages left for 2019.

I created this weeks layout using templates with the idea of highlighting a 'currently' week.

These templates were the perfect answer.

Right now, all Sahlin Studio templates and quick pages are on sale for 35% off right through the end of November. There are so many to choose from. To check them out, follow this link

PL2019 - Weeks 38 & 39 | Sahlin Studio

Here are weeks 38 and 39 of my project life album:

  • Mason had his first skate tonight, they just had defence on the ice. Hockey evals are always unsettling.
  • She's always waiting for me.
  • Or at the back fence, waiting for a treat from the neighbour.
  • Handmade shirt and cat ears. Love this girl.
  • Love how the space above the fireplace looks already.
  • Apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to ice cream.
  • Happy 21st Anniversary! We were able to squeeze a quick dinner in. September is always hectic at the start of the hockey/ringette season.

  • I always decorate the kitchen for the kids birthdays. And I thought turning 50 absolutely deserved decorations.
  • Sitting in the car, at the rink, bundled up under a blanket. First cold of the season.
  • Exhibition game 2, looking good girls!
  • Woke up to the snow. Very depressing as it was September.
  • Love that I raised readers.

PL2019 - Week 37 | Sahlin Studio

I'm feeling good and relatively caught up with my project life album.

This layout, Week 37, we had sort of a calmness, as extra curricular activities hadn't started up yet. We were in denial once again, about how busy things would become. You'd think this many years in, we'd know better. Barry nearly bought flooring for us to work on a couple of areas in the house, and I, being the voice of reason said, 'No... It seems like we have lots of time, but we really don't'.

A week later, we were scattered in every direction. Glad we held off on the flooring.

Here is my layout for week 37:

  • This week we put in insulation and speaker wire, we're getting there!
  • An extra ice time for the kids to get their legs back.
  • Everyone needs a Madelyn to go shopping with.
  • So excited again this year for my December Daily album. This product looks amazing!
  • Drywall up and the first coat of mud. It looks so much better already.
  • Having in the basement with the kids, playing "guess that tune". It was so fun.

PL2019 - Week 36 | Sahlin Studio

I have an unexpected free morning, as the furnace isn't working. I had to clear my calendar to wait for a technician to come and hopefully figure out and correct, the error message on our furnace. I know one thing for sure, it's not working. The fan is blowing cold air, and our house is a chilly 14 degrees Celsius. The 'reset' has been attempted, to no avail.

If you ask me, the digital age simply adds one more element to the list of things that can go wrong. The majority of us are ill equipped to handle these problems... Like error messages on the furnace.

I'm super thankful that it's October, and not mid Dec/Jan, when winter really wreaks havoc.

Having said that, I am bundled up from head to toe in polar fleece. Any one that knows me knows, I don't like to be cold. After publishing this post, I plan to get on the couch under a blanket with a hot cup of tea, and my book.

That seems the most logical way to deal with the chill.

Here is week 36 of my album:

  • First day of school pictures!
  • Family room is ready for a ceiling.
  • A very long over-due haircut happened.
  • Madelyn at evals, meeting up with past team mates.
  • Mason learning about checking the oil.
  • Headphones playing music, texting with friends.

PL2018 - Week 35 | Sahlin Studio

Oopsie, with my most recent post, I uploaded the wrong week.

It's since been deleted and I'm attempting to try again, this time uploading the correct week.

Having said that, everything I mentioned about the snow being gone and the spectacular sunrises and sunsets is still totally accurate.

***

The snow has finally melted around here, and although many of the leaves are frozen in place on the trees, some are continuing to change and flutter down to the earth.

I love this time of year, but also really wish it would last a bit longer. I don't count 2 snowstorms as 'fall like' weather.

I love the sound of the leaves scuttling across the yard and roads in the wind. And the sunsets... They seem more amazing at this time of year. Is that because we're more present for them? They're happening around dinner time, and perhaps I'm more aware of them because I'm watching out the window? Whatever the reason, the sunsets in October don't disappoint.

***

Here is my week 35:

  • Madelyn and her littlest cousins at Calaway Park.
  • Enjoying a funny moment with Barry.
  • Mad being serious for a photo.
  • A crazy storm that literally light up the sky with sheet lightning for 30 mins.
  • Mason coming home from a driving lesson.
  • Finally, our front door is painted. And I love it.

PL2019 - Weeks 29 & 30

I skipped over the weeks we were on our summer road trip.

I knew I wanted to include them in my project life album, of course. But I wanted a little more time to think about how I was going to tackle this.

We took selfies or had photos of the 4 of us, everywhere we went. It was awesome, because even though Mason the kids were getting fed up with picture taking, I continued taking them.

I decided I would 'bookend' weeks 29 and 30 focusing on all the selfie photos we'd done taken during our trip.

This is the front page:

And yes, I just realized that my title card is wrong... Dang it. I put week 21, not week 29... Not sure I care enough to print it again, I might just let ignore it, or cross it out with a sharpie...

Currently I have left the next couple pages back side of this page blank. I want to document our trip in a bit more detail within this album, but haven't totally thought it through yet.

Here is the last page, also week 30.

I love that there are hardly any words. It is simply photos of the four of us, in some of the places we visited.

This trip was so much fun. Can't wait to tell a few more stories about it.

PL2019 - Week 31

This weeks layout was super quick and easy. I selected a journal card, some paper a few elements to put this weeks page together.

I'm a firm believer in pictures telling the story. I only added words over top of two of the photos.

Less is more sometimes.

I can't believe as I'm posting this layout, week 31, my kids are officially back to school.

Grades 12 and 9...

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't the least bit melancholy about that... Especially after seeing this photo yesterday...

This is a screenshot of one of my older layouts. I have the original of course, but can't find the digital version, so a screenshot it is.

And I still love it as much now, six years later... What? Six. Years. Later. How?

Where oh where did that little dude go? It honestly seems like it was just yesterday.

Apple Orchard is this months featured product. It is 40% off through September. It's great for back to to school layouts.  Check out Apple Orchard by following this link.

Sniff. It's okay, I'm pulling myself back together.

On to week 31:

  • Getting started on the second puzzle of the summer.
  • Those headphones on that girl. It's all I see day and night.
  • Morning vs afternoon.
  • Libby, simply living her best life.
  • Madelyn helping Grandma sweep the patio.

PL2019 - Week 28

Oopsie, I let time get away from me the past few weeks. I have some catching up to do.

This was the week before we left for our road trip. [I'm not totally sure how I'm going to add that in my project life album... I have so many photos... I need to think about that for a bit.]

For now, here's a look at week 28.

  • A visit with Grandma & Grandpa before we go away.
  • Sort of a 'catch' of the impressive sheet lightning we had one night.
  • Morning coffee at a fav spot.
  • Little dog who doesn't realize we're about to leave her behind.
  • Last frisbee before we leave.
  • Our first destination selfie in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.

PL2019 - Week 27

Going back to week 27 means going back to the beginning of summer!

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over already. Only a few more weeks before the kids head back to school. I'm not sure where the time goes. And now that they're older, it's so much easier.

Going to enjoy the last couple of weeks to the fullest.

Here is a look at week 27:

  • We went downtown to watch Canada Day fireworks. It was chilly, a storm blew in that afternoon, but the fireworks were really good.
  • I thought I'd try a puzzle this summer, my attempt to keep the kids off devices.
  • Madelyn playing a game with our neighbour in the back yard.
  • Ultimate frisbee started up this week, runs once a week through August.
  • A visit with dear friends. Miss these guys so much, and so thankful to get to see them.

PL2019 - Week 22

Well, we're a full week into July.

I'm trying my best to get into some sort of summer routine.

The novelty of not having to be up first thing and get kids out the door has not grown tiresome yet.

I'm still trying to put Monday's aside, to do some of my scrapping. I still have a ton to do on my week in the life. But I'm hopeful I'll get it done sometime this summer. Rainy days help, because then I don't feel guilty for being indoors.

Today is lovely, and I want to get outside before the rain starts.

Here is week 22:

  • When I journaled about Barry and his car, I was kind of kidding, and kind of not. One thing I have learned over the past 20+ years is this: if you're Barry's vehicle. He's going to take care of you. And if you're his spouses vehicle, he will take care of you too, but not with quite the same level of commitment. Which I'm totally okay with.
  • Speaking of Barry, it dawned on me just exactly who he reminded me of with his longer hair.
  • She still brought me a dandelion, perhaps I'll get little bouquets this year too.
  • What? Don't you wear eye patches to dinner in your house?
  • Stopping to marvel at the wildflowers on Nose Hill.
  • Katie and Tyson get married... Such a great time!

PL2019 - Week 21

Diving right in to week 21:

  • A few years ago, if you'd have told me I'd love avocado toast with a soft poached egg on top, I'm sure I would have laughed out loud, but now, I'm absolutely loving it.
  • So nice to see some green leaves. It's been slow going this year.
  • Texting with Barry while he's away on a golf tourney. [Love to look back and see snippets of conversations that I've had with my family included in my album. Plan to make more of an effort to include more of these]
  • Cousin reunion. My heart... These two hadn't seen each other in a year and 9 months. I nearly sobbed at their greeting. It was so, so sweet. Madelyn missed her cousin so much.
  • Included a photo of the golf course Barry sent. Love that he sends me photos.
  • Wedding shower for Miss Katie, she and my nephew are getting married.

PL2019 - Week 20

I can hardly believe that the first day of summer is this week.

Eeks.

It feels like spring literally just arrived.

The countdown to summer vaycay has officially begun. Mason is nearly finished school [last exam today] and Madelyn has a couple of weeks to go. These last few weeks for her are the hardest ever... It's light out at 10:30 pm and she just wants to hang out...  I'm worn out trying to get two teenagers into bed at a decent time. To say they can outlast me is indeed, an understatement.

The days are long... Delightfully so. The birds are singing late into the night, and begin again first thing in the morning. Usually around 3:30 am.  The grass is green, and the trees are finally full of leaves. Let summer begin... I'm so ready for it.

Here is week 20 of my project life album.

  • National chocolate chip cookie day, so I made a batch of cookies for the family.
  • Love so much, that she loves to read.
  • Calf-stretches with Dad.
  • Rockbound challenges met head on, successfully.
  • Trip to Ikea with Mum and Dad. It was SO busy...
  • Dinner with my brother.

PL2019 - Week 19

Week 19 also happened to be the same week I followed along with Ali Edwards A Week in the Life.

After much pondering, I did decide to participate in this project. I took photos and jotted down journaling from each day. [So already I'm ahead of where I was last year in the project]

Have I got a mini album finished? Hell, no. I sure don't. Have I got it started? Yes, I have title pages as well as the journaling for each day. So I've started, and that's the important thing. Last year I had photos, but for some reason, did no journaling. Silly me.

Although I have very detailed information for the week, I always include the week in my project life album as well.

This year my format was very photo heavy. I kind of did a photo dump and included a lot of the photos I had for each day.

When my mini album is complete, I'll be able to compare between the two different types of story telling, [2 page layout vs mini album] should I want to go back to remember a specific story with more clarity.

It's a little more jumbled, but I do like how there are so many photos present, and so few words.

Here is week 19, which I decided on a back to back 2 page spread:

I wanted repetition here. You'll notice that besides the title card, each 2x3 card is set up exactly the same. Makes it easy, when you just have to  change a few elements, rather than start from scratch with each card. [Looking now, I see I forgot the white border around my 'magic' photo on the bottom left... I'm not totally sure I won't be reprinting that photo again, with a white border...] I just KNOW it will drive me crazy every time I look at it. Or maybe I will be able to see the imperfection, and let it go. Time will tell.

The difference between this week and the others, is the sheer amount of photos taken, and the really diving deeply into our every day lives. It gets taken for granted, but it's amazing to see the subtle changes that happen over the years. If I didn't document a week in this same detail, you wouldn't see that.

I am eager to finish the week in the life mini album, and once I have, will share it.

For now, enjoy a quick glance at a week in our life!
