PL2023 - Week 2 | Sahlin Studio

Last week we had a snowfall warning, and once again, the weather people were accurate.

I feel thankful I live somewhere, that despite all the snow we get, the chinooks blow in  and melt most of the snow away. Typing this, I did some digging and found that we had 26.1 cm of snow this month [10 1/2 inches]. The majority of the snowfall accumulated over just a couple of days.

The chinooks are a very, very messy process, when temperatures go from well below zero to suddenly well above zero. Really quick, like overnight.  Again, thankful I live where the snow disappears, but heaven help you if you don't check the windshield washer fluid before you leave the house. I'm sure many of us are familiar with pulling onto a side street and finding snow to rub on your windshield as your 'washer fluid' simply to see out the windshield. I digress, that's a story for another day...

What I'm trying to say is this: we lost most of the snow. Now the snow is back and deeper than ever. We had a ridiculous cold front blow through, where night time lows were once again in the -40 degree celsius with wind chill and now we're patiently waiting for yet another chinook to blow in, and temps will rise once more.

And today, we woke up to snow. Falling. Again. Is it pretty? Yes. But have I tired of it? Again, yes.

Today will definitely change our February accumulation of snow. But by how much...

Here's week 2 of this years project life album:

  • Hanging out in Bass Pro. Kinda like a date night, but not.
  • Walking the doggo.
  • Hockey fans.
  • Seeing Fiddlers on the Roof, was sobering considering the war in the Ukraine right now. History repeating itself, again.
  • Crazy kids, who I adore.

PL2023 - Week 1 | Sahlin Studio

I nearly went all digital starting with this new year. But I still have room left in my photo album and at the last minute decided to keep up with this format.

I love the physical photos. I'm forced to print them and to have them. And I do. If I went completely digital, I wouldn't have these pictures at my finger prints.

Still annoyed that Costco went out of the photo business. Initially I had sent a few things their way, but it took weeks to get them, and the quality was crap. Recently got an email that they're moving over to Shutterfly, so I guess they're out for good.

London Drugs, though a bit on the costly side, do have great quality.

Here is week one of this years album:

  • Sweetest little dog.
  • Ringing in 2023 as a threesome.
  • Barry just about went crazy on this puzzle. It was tough.
  • Missing my Mumma still. Hoping 2023 will be a better year.
  • RV check with Baba after our Costco run.

PL2022 - December | Sahlin Studio

Finally, the last pages of my 2022 project life album.

A very quick look at our December. I document December in much greater detail in my December Daily album [which sadly... is not completed yet] so this is just a snippet, kind of a highlight from each week.

  • Will never tire of sitting at the kitchen table with my coffee, while the morning sun streams in.
  • All 4 of us went as saw Violent Night, it was dark and indeed violent.
  • Denny's Christmas Adam dinner with friends.
  • Little dog sunning herself in the family room.
  • Holiday festivities with friends, finally getting back to normal again.
  • Christmas Eve festivities with family which is also returning to 'normal'.
  • An Xmas gift for the kids tickets to see Chilliwack & Honeymoon Suite Dec 30th . LOVE sharing this with them.
  • A quiet New Year's Eve at home with my sweetie.

PL2023 - Title Page | Sahlin Studio

I'm not quite ready to dive into this years project life layouts yet, but I do have my title page for 2023 done. I created this title page using the Me & You Collection. It is the featured product for February from Sahlin Studio. Which means, for the whole month you can download it for 50% off the regular price.

I really agonized over doing this year completely digital and printing out a book at the end of the year, but printing off individual photos and putting them into a photo album won out. I plan to do that again this year. It's worked well for the past couple of years.

I have to say, I have got a lot of mileage out of the family photos we did in November. I've used them on several layouts already and on our Christmas cards.

Why does no one do Christmas cards anymore? What's happened? It's still one of my favourite parts of the holiday season to both create and send out cards and to receive cards. Every year however, we get less and less cards in the mail. It makes me sad.  I won't quite doing it, it still brings me so much joy even if the joy isn't returned.

February 2023 Template Freebie | Sahlin Studio

Happy groundhog day! It's already February and I don't know whether the groundhog saw his shadow or not [I sometimes prefer to not know whether we're in for 6 more weeks of winter] and then I remember: Right... I live in Canada. Of course we'll get 6 more weeks of winter...

With the start of a new month, comes a new template freebie from Sahlin Studio. Free to download through the whole month! To pick up this months template follow this link.

Last week Barry and I went on a road trip hoping to check out the methane gas bubbles at Abraham Lake in Alberta. It's been on my radar for a few years now, but it's nearly a 4 hour drive to get there. And driving for 4 hours in the winter, in the mountains, isn't always ideal.

Also, you can't be guaranteed you will see the bubbles. The lake could be covered in snow, and then you're out of luck.

We decided on a date, set out and began traveling west. Two hours away, the clouds got lower and thicker, it started to snow a little bit. We turned off the transCanada highway onto highway 93 headed north.  The road was marked as 'in fair condition'. 😳  The roads were not awesome, visibility not super. There was so. Much. Snow. It was obvious the plows had been through recently.  We began to wonder if we'd made the right decision. Once we got on to highway 11, the scenery and roads changed completely. The snowy landscape melted away, the road was dry and the sun was shining.

We made to Abraham Lake and at the first stopping point there was actually not a breath of wind. Which from everything I've heard and read, is highly unusual. The huge lake had no snow on it, which was such a surprise [all the bodies of water we passed along the way were covered in snow] We made our way down to the extremely slippery surface [wearing ice cleats] and we saw the bubbles!!

It was amazing to see, and the photos I took do NOT do it justice. It's something you need to see with your own eyes. I'm so glad we finally did this and so thankful we were able to actually see the bubbles. One thing that's crossed of my bucket list for 2023.
