PL2014 - Weeks 7 & 8

In my last post, I'm pretty sure I mentioned we were on the brink of a warm up.
I lied.
Well... I guess I didn't technically lie
It did warm up. It warmed up enough to melt all of our snow. It was all gone. And the next day, after all the snow was melted, and gone, it began to snow. And it's pretty much snowed every day since then. You would never know, that all our snow had melted, by looking out my kitchen window.
I hear people speak of spring.
I see people post pictures of spring.
And even though the first day of spring, has come and gone, it does not look like spring. It looks like winter.
Still.
And I'm getting sensitive about it.
I want spring. I'm ready for it. I feel I'm even deserving of it.
Today, I watched it snow. All. day. long. I'm dreaming of spring.

Any way, here are my layouts for weeks 7 & 8. When it was still winter. Oh wait... It is still winter. Still.

Week 7:

Week 7 saw a field trip for the Grade 6's to both the Olympic Oval, as well as a presentation by Kobie Boykins on the Mars Rover and a quick trip to city hall. Teachers Convention came and gave us 2 days off school [Thur/Fri] which was also tied into the Family Day Holiday. Valentine's Day came, and we went for heart shaped pizza at BP's. Mace had hockey. We visited with Ama. We went and checked out a new library after our plans of seeing the newly released Lego Movie, didn't pan out. [I wasn't the only one with the idea of seeing an afternoon matinee.]

Week 8:

Week 8 included a day trip to Banff to mooch around. Olympic sports day at school [both Daddy and I volunteered at street hockey stations, and the day couldn't have been colder...] Before the fun started, I played gym curling with some of the other volunteer Mums. We made it to the Lego Movie, everything is awesome, and we got up early to watch Canada win the gold medal in mens hockey.

PL2014 - Weeks 5 & 6

It's warming up in our neck of the woods. I kid you not. When you live in a place that frequently gets chinooks, you thank your lucky stars every time the wind starts to blow over those gorgeous rocky mountains.

Honestly, I often wonder how come I live here [here being a country where a good 8 months of the year can be arctic-like conditions] And then I wonder how people can live in other parts of our country that there is no such thing as a chinook. Where there is no reprieve from the arctic-like conditions.

A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to girlfriend from Winnipeg. I told her, "Oh... Poor us. It's supposed to get to -38° Celsius this weekend, with the wind chill". There was silence. I asked her if she'd heard me... She had, and she did her best to muster up some 'poor you' sympathy all the while telling me that she'd moved the week it was -43°, without the windchill. That in her new house, she had no idea what the backyard looked like, because there was SO MUCH SNOW. That her son had missed a number of days of school, that ended with a 'teen', because of the cold.

We're a hearty bunch in Canada. We brave the elements. I don't think twice about bundling my kids up and sending them out the door when it's COLD. It's what we do. So my complaining fell on deaf ears, and then I once again considered myself lucky. Lucky to live so close to the mountains. Lucky for those chinooks. Lucky that it's not unusual for us to go from -22° to plus 9° over night. Love it. Hearing the water trickling down the drains is such a spring like sound, and now that we've changed the clocks, the days are getting longer, and hopefully warmer.

I got slightly off track there.

Here are my project life layouts for weeks 5&6.

Week 5:

Week 5 included a trip for Mason to see the Orthodontist. A desk in Mason's room. Student-led conferences at the kids school, to show off their work. A trip to the mountains, to hike Johnston Canyon. A lunch date with my boy. Mason showing off his space project. A birthday celebration with Grandma.

Week 5 - Insert Side A:

Insert Side B:

I used an 8x8 page protector and stitched it to accommodate smaller pictures.  I'm so glad we went on this hike, the day was absolutely beautiful and we practically had the place to ourselves.

 Week 6 - Both Pages:

Week 6 - Left hand Side:

I decided to include a 2 page spread for the week because there was so much happening. First of all, it was the start of the Olympics. So exciting. Madelyn's class went to the science centre, the grade 3's hosted an 'opening ceremonies' assembly.

Week 6 - Right Hand Side:

The grade 6's went speed skating to the Olympic Oval, which was so cool, because of course the torch was lit. Barry and I went out with friends, an impromptu date that came about an hour before it happened. Madelyn's Brownie group got to spend the night sleeping over at the Tyrell Museum.

PL2014 - Weeks 3 & 4

I'm very nearly caught up with my physical project life pages. I'm still behind on posting them, but let me tell you, knowing they're finished and just need to be posted, reduces my stress level quite a lot.

I am enjoying the one page format. For one thing, it doesn't take nearly as long. Half the space, takes  half the time to create! I've also added in the occasional 'insert' to be have more pictures for a particular event. Week 3 includes one of these 'particular' events. Our day trip to Lake Louise back at the end of January. We have been trying to get there, to the ice magic festival, for years. This year all the stars aligned and we were able to check it out.

First of all, the back drop is stunning... C'mon, it's Lake Louise after all. Gorgeous no matter what the season is.

Before I start to ramble on, I'd best post my layouts.

Here is Week 3:

This week I got a juror summons [it ended up being cancelled the day before] Starting to see the most incredible morning sunrises. Icy walking paths, which we can't escape. And, a certain little boy checking out a potential junior high school. Eeks!

Week 3 - insert side A:
Week 3 - insert side B:

We had so much fun. There was SO MUCH SNOW out there.  We have had a lot of cold this winter, and we had record amounts of snowfall through November and December, but since Christmas, we've had hardly any snow. It's been kind of weird actually. But to go out there, and see how high the snowbanks were, was kind of crazy.

The kids and Barry skated on the frozen lake.  I chickened out, last minute. Just not a strong skater people. Any way, I highly recommend checking it out. Next time I'd love to try snow shoeing.

Week 4:

Week 4 had Barry working a lot of evenings, so I played games with the kids, a science project well under way. Getting ready to install a desk in Mason's room. Pajama Day at school. The most amazing sunset, and a lunch date with my girl.
